The Core Ranking Metrics
We do not rely on a single win to determine a player's rank. Instead, we use a weighted system that accounts for the difficulty of the event and the size of the field. A victory in a small local event is valued differently than a victory in a world-class championship with thousands of entrants.
Factors Influencing Player Scores
To ensure a holistic view of performance, our algorithm analyzes several key data points:
- Field Size: The more players in a tournament, the higher the difficulty of reaching the final table. Points are scaled based on the total number of entrants.
- Buy-in Level: High-stakes tournaments are weighted more heavily than low-stakes events, as they typically attract a more skilled professional field.
- Consistency (Deep Runs): While winning is the ultimate goal, consistently reaching the final two tables (the 'deep run') demonstrates a level of skill that is reflected in the rankings.
- Event Prestige: Major championships and recognized tour stops carry a higher multiplier than standard daily events.
Calculating the Performance Index
The Performance Index is the final score derived from the metrics above. It is calculated using a proprietary formula that balances raw wins against the probability of success given the field strength. This prevents players from 'gaming' the system by entering a high volume of low-quality tournaments to inflate their numbers.
Updating the Leaderboards
Our rankings are updated in real-time or at the conclusion of major event cycles. This ensures that the current state of the professional circuit is accurately reflected. We categorize rankings into several tiers: Annual Leaderboards, All-Time Rankings, and Format-Specific Leaders (e.g., No-Limit Hold'em vs. Pot-Limit Omaha).
Transparency and Verification
All data used for our rankings is sourced from official tournament results and verified payout sheets. We maintain a strict auditing process to ensure that no unofficial or unverified results influence the standings, providing a gold standard for player evaluation in the professional poker community.
